Controlled Substance Policy

Everwell Primary Care PLLC is committed to providing safe, responsible, and evidence-based medical care. The prescribing of controlled substances is carefully regulated and may not be appropriate in all cases.
General Policy
Controlled substances include medications such as opioids, stimulants, benzodiazepines, and certain sleep medications.
Due to safety concerns, regulatory requirements, and the limitations of telehealth, Everwell Primary Care does not routinely prescribe controlled substances.
Initial Evaluations
Controlled substances will not be initiated during telehealth visits.
Patients requiring evaluation for medications such as:

ADHD medications (stimulants)

opioid pain medications
-
benzodiazepines (for anxiety)

or other controlled medications
may be referred to an appropriate specialist or in-person provider.
Existing Prescriptions
If you are currently prescribed a controlled substance by another provider, Everwell Primary Care may:

review your medication history
-
discuss your current treatment plan
-
assist with coordination of care
However, continuation or refilling of controlled substances is not guaranteed and will be determined on a case-by-case basis.
Safety and Monitoring
If controlled substances are ever considered, additional requirements may include:

verification of medical records
-
prescription monitoring program (PMP) review
-
urine drug screening (if applicable)
-
signed treatment agreements
-
in-person evaluation when required
No Early Refills or Replacements
Everwell Primary Care does not provide:
-
early refills
-
replacement prescriptions for lost or stolen medications
-
prescriptions without appropriate evaluation
Compliance with Laws
All prescribing practices follow Washington State regulations and federal guidelines for controlled substances.
Patient Responsibility
Patients are expected to:

use medications only as prescribed
-
safeguard medications appropriately
-
communicate honestly about medication use
Right to Decline
Everwell Primary Care reserves the right to decline prescribing controlled substances if it is not clinically appropriate or safe.
